Enemy of state questions

What is the point of this sequence? Describe briefly how tension is created through the editing.

In this clip the tension is created by short clips and the background music. Also the dark atmosphere adds to the tension because of the dull colours used. The music is very fast which builds tension. The point of the sequence is to give us an idea of how the government controllers while we don’t realise. This gives us an idea of what the film is about.

Look at the use of CU or Medium CU. Why are they primarily used here? Refer to specific shots

This shows the actor (will smith) is feeling depressed an sad to something he has just discovered. The director has filmed it like this to give us some feelings of depression. This builds the mood of the film. It makes the film more interesting as the actor revels emotion.

Choose 15-20 seconds from anywhere in the sequence and describe each shot in detail, explaining its effect / function for the audience, as well as commenting on how the cuts (the editing) adds to the meaning.

I have chosen timings 1:33-1:50 as during;this time there are several types of shots used. The most common is the close up shot of will smith. This shows that will smith has authority over others and that he is the main character in the film. Also it shows how important the situation is. Furthermore the editing of the cuts help create a mood and atmosphere. This is good because it keeps the viewers interested in the film.

How far does the editing of this sequence fit in with the genre of the thriller? Justify your opinion.

It fits in with the genre of the thriller as it builds tension by focusing on certain things such as mood and atmosphere and objects. there are various scenes with fast paced music in the background.
